What are your inspirations?

Sometimes life feels tough, unfriendly. It is on days like these that I especially need inspirations — items that help me persevere and keep trying to accomplish.

Don’t get me wrong, there has been a lot of activity lately. From marketing/communications job applications, freelance writing proposals to volunteering and keeping my Mom & Dad’s new puppy safe. What I really need is for the job application and freelance proposals to pay off. I definitely need some inspiration to keep going.

Here, in no particular order, are the items/ materials that give me strength to pursue marketing/communication/pay-the-bills dreams. (I would love to freelance or work with a small, medium-size growth-oriented PR agency. Above all, I’d like to make an impact and keep learning.)

The Inspiration List

• For time management advice, I like to read Harvard Business Review article “Three Questions that Help Me Live a Fulfilling Life.”
• For a reminder to practice yoga throughout the day, I like to view The Huffington Post video “These Yoga Poses Will Take You Through The Perfect Day.”
• For an escape, I like to read fiction and look for DIY & fashion ideas from the Live Well Network shows Mirror, Mirror and Knock it Off.
• For a sense of the wider world, I like to read blogs like those listed in the “Blogs I Follow” section of this site.

What items help you through the day? What are your inspirations?

The Marketing Hat (soon to be a Saturday sun visor)

I am not sure where I got that title from. Something to do with “wearing many hats” and the fact it is, for the most part, summer. Anyway, after reading the recent bacon article from the American Chemical Society (ACS) I am filled with marketing ideas and questions…

How do I continue to use my marketing/pr education to promote organizations and causes  waiting for consumers, similar to how ACS created traction for the organization as additional media carried the bacon story.

Most businesses can find element(s) that make them unique and “top of mind” to the consumer. And I think promoting causes, local places or B2B is fun.

So, I have been thinking about post topics for local businesses…

You never know when a bacon article will inspire a marketing hat.

Pursuit of Happiness…

Happy Memorial Day to all! Let’s remember those who serve. Remind yourself of your freedoms, joys and pursuits made possible by service and sacrifice.

How to observe the day…

On Memorial Day (and Veterans’ Day) many cities display a Field of Flags.

I love the “Field of Flags’ idea! You too?

Current pursuits: I’ll continue to post about communication issues and my wishlist/pursuits…exercise, travels, DIY wishlist. I probably won’t be posting DIY home or jewelry projects anytime soon. I am currently staying with the parents until I find a new, paying communication/marketing job. Thus, I have no space for DIYs (jewelry, fashion, interior design…) Someday, I’ll get to all the goals!

The Best Laid Plans …

In order to find out if blogging can help me achieve balance and help to identify goals, I have to actually, you know, BLOG. I have to act on my plans.

A while back, I crafted a blogging schedule to help me in this adventure. I told myself I should write about specific topics on specific days. This hasn’t happened yet, so I have revised my schedule to something more achievable…

Best Laid Plans…” schedule

Blog at least once a week about life and the things I love: DIY, yoga, reading, communication best practices and communication issues.

As a communications/marketing professional, I believe in publishing schedules and in the power of brand. (This scheduling and effort always helps me accomplish more at work.)

I need advice from experienced bloggers and experienced people, I think.

Question: Will the workplace tactics of scheduling and branding help me deliver a blog? Can a blog truly help me identify goals and grow? How can I make my blog a place for those things?

Best laid plans, indeed…

Why create a blog?

My first blog post 🙂

I created this blog to de-compress from my day job and reflect on how I stay calm in a communication-filled world.

I hope to post once a week about communication, media issues and work/life balance, including yoga (OM…), DIY, thrift shopping, fashion, design, my travel wishlist…

I believe a blog can help me identify goals and achieve life balance.

Enjoy!
